Beaufort, SC --- The United States Tennis Association Dataw Splash today kicked off across three area tennis courts: Fripp Island, Spring Island, and the host site Dataw Island.
More than 165 players this year are gathering to compete in this USTA level three tournament, sanctioned by the Southern South Carolina region of the United States Tennis Association. Held annually Dataw Island, the overwhelming response this year has caused the event to grow into an even bigger event with even more competition.
Dataw Island Director of Racquet and Lawn Sports, Warren Florence, says “We have some fantastic players every year, and this year we are excited to see many return, and to welcome some new faces from around the region and southeast.”
Florence went on to say that Dataw Island is grateful to all the volunteers, community support and sponsors, without whom the event would not be possible, especially our partner facilities this year. “The local tennis community benefits from some great relationships; being able to tap into these other local courts allowed us to welcome a huge field of competitors to the Lowcountry.”
Play began at 10 am this morning after a rain delay, and will continue through Sunday afternoon.
