WEST PALM BEACH, FL (April 21, 2021) — The Club at Ibis is pleased to announce Jay Berger has been named Director of Athletics at the high-end private club.
Few people have the perspective on sports as Berger does. He was ranked in the top-10 as a professional tennis player, coached the U.S. Olympics and Davis Cup teams and his son, Daniel, is a world-class golfer. Berger will bring that expertise to The Club at Ibis, where he will oversee tennis, fitness and pickleball operations.
Four years ago, Berger was the U.S. Tennis Association Player Development’s head of men’s tennis, helping nurture some of the top, young Americans in the game. He didn’t plan on his career changing course as it has; it happened organically.
“The Club at Ibis has a truly wonderful membership,” the 54-year-old Berger said. “They are passionate about sports and extremely nice people. When I first started here, I couldn’t take five steps without someone asking me about myself, my family or my son. That hasn’t changed in 3 ½ years.
“The members have worked really hard in their lives. They are very passionate and very alive. The other thing that drew me here is the staff is somewhat of a family. Most of them have been here a long time, whether they are directors, servers or bartenders. When you see that many people stay here so long, that’s a very good sign to me this is a great place to work.”
While Berger doesn’t have to worry about which tennis players will represent the U.S. in this summer’s Olympics, he can make a bigger impact on hundreds of members at The Club at Ibis who also strive to be their best every day.
“I could not be happier with the decision I made to come here, and the decision Ibis made to bring me here,” Berger said. “I truly enjoy working with our members as much as I did working with all the pros I worked with.”
