Beaufort, SC (February 15, 2019) - The Dataw Island Owners Association is pleased to announce the completion of the purchase of the Marina property located at the north end of Dataw Island.
Today, a group of employees and members gathered to officially break ground and begin the clean up and restoration process. After some basic clean-up and removing trimming palm trees, shrubs, and other overgrown foliage, the team will immediately power wash and paint the building, and in the coming weeks, the forklift runway will be repaired.
This summer, we will begin construction of the 420’ shoreline dock, to include shore power, water, and a gasoline fuel dispenser, to be placed in the “bull pen” area. The new docks will support approximately 20 boats, which will be side tied, and we will also be able to once again welcome transient boaters.
“Today marks a moment that we have anxiously looked forward to for some time,” said Dataw Island General Manager Ted Bartlett. “Creekstone has been wonderful to with throughout the transition process, and now, under the ownership of the DIOA, we look forward to a bright new future for the Dataw Marina.”
The Marina will be managed by Bartlett and as a department of the DIOA, with a Harbormaster at the helm. Bartlett said, “We have narrowed our search to three very strong candidates, and look forward to bringing on the new Harbormaster in March.”
He added, “We have great partners at the Marina in our lessees; I hope that members and the community will take the time to get to know the businesses at the Marina complex, and show our support for their dedication to helping make the Dataw Marina a fantastic destination.”
