Savannah, GA (January 6, 2015) - There were many, many children in Savannah who did not have to wish on a star to make their dreams come true this Christmas … thanks to the generosity of residents at The Landings.
Working with Union Mission’s Department of Children’s Services, the Greenbriar Children’s Center and CASA, The Landings Company organized the “Adopt-an-Angel” program for the 12th consecutive year on behalf of the community. Savannah area children ranging in age from babies to teens were asked to make a “Christmas list” and their wishes were then hung on the two special Christmas trees in the lobby of The Landings Company Welcome Center.
On November 17th, the day after the trees went up, presents began appearing. With generous hearts and jolly spirits, Landings residents arrived at the office with stories of their shopping experiences dedicated to finding exactly the perfect gift for their selected child.
Each year the program grows, with more Angels and more gifts. “There has been so much excitement and such an outpouring of love - it’s been our privilege to coordinate this program on behalf of our community”, said Raoul Rushin, president of The Company.
Bikes of all sizes were delivered, dolls were everywhere, toys, scooters, and clothing piled up. By the first week in December so many packages were delivered that it was difficult to get around the office.
On December 16th, a caravan of Byrd Heating & Air trucks delivered the gifts to the three organizations to the delight of coordinators.
“Casa provides advocacy for abused, neglected and abandoned children in Chatham County. The fantastic residents of The Landings never let these children down by bringing joy and smiles to many of them during the holiday season through their generous donations of toys and gifts” said Anne Robinson, Executive Director of CASA. “CASA and the children we represent are lucky to have The Landings as a partner in believing that childhood should be something that should be rejoiced in not something to be recovered from.”
“On behalf of the Staff of Union Mission, we would like to extend our gratitude. We at Union Mission see on a daily basis the many people that are less fortunate than most. Many are in situations that are beyond their control. We sincerely thank The Landings for helping us bring holiday cheer to the less fortunate. Your gifts not only brought pleasure to others but gave us joy in sharing what we have with those that don’t.” Shameka Thomas-Habersham, Union Mission.
