According to Marinas Manager Blake Cole, the idea for the new storage facility and launch, as well as the money raised to purchase them, was spearheaded by Landings resident Carol Barnard. “Mrs. Barnard recognized there was a large level of interest for this system, and she worked very hard to make it happen,” he said. “We are very grateful for her efforts and could not be more excited about the launch. This is a great revitalization effort for the south-end of the island.” Because of Barnard’s fundraising efforts, the marina was able to purchase a few dollies to make it even easier to transport kayaks to the launch.
“Marina staff will be trained to help residents with the launch, and will host an opening party on March 30 with an oyster roast,” Cole said. “The party will kick off about an hour or two before sunset so we can demonstrate the functionality of the launch." If residents miss the live demonstration, there will be a video at the event featuring the launch process .
Barnard said she couldn’t be more excited about the new launch at Delegal. “I learned to kayak here, and every opportunity that I am able to get out there I do,” she said. “I feel the timing for this amenity was perfect, as there has been a major increase in paddling, canoeing, and kayaking. It seemed this addition would just be a natural for Delegal Marina and its pristine environment. I am very excited.”
